Data recovery services fuel extra revenue opportunities for resellers, says Kroll Ontrack

Epsom, 14 January 2016 Kroll Ontrack, the data recovery and ediscovery services provider, says that the introduction of its unique Freeval service for servers is creating new opportunities for resellers to provide third party data recovery services to their customers.

Phil Bridge, Managing Director for Western Europe at Kroll Ontrack said: “The main benefit of Freeval for resellers is that it offers a free and quick assessment of clients’ data loss and recovery options, providing an open and transparent service from beginning to end. Our resellers tell us that demand for third party data recovery services continues to grow, but also that having provided the Freeval service via Kroll Ontrack, they go on to sell an additional range of other services. Nine in 10 of our resellers say that their clients purchase additional products and services as a result of working with them on data recovery projects.”

With Freeval resellers can offer a no-obligation evaluation report that is delivered in a matter of hours, to their customers.  The report provides advice on what information can be retrieved, what the best course of action would be and what the options are so customers can make an informed decision.

Kroll Ontrack in the UK introduced its Freeval service for smaller devices and drives up to three terabytes in volume in 2013.  It made the decision in September 2015 to extend the service to larger devices and multi drives - in response to feedback from customers who wanted to see a broader range of media included in the service - and has since seen a 74% overall increase in requests in the UK alone. 54% of this growth in demand was from resellers.

Phil Bridge continued: “As well as driving extra revenues, offering data recovery services helps to build customer loyalty.  More than three quarters of resellers believe that offering data recovery services builds customer loyalty and reduces churn.”

The Freeval service follows four main steps:

  • A free phone consultation where data recovery consultants will make an initial assessment of data loss and potential recovery solutions
  • A free in-laboratory or remote media evaluation after which Kroll Ontrack’s Data Recovery Evaluation Team will provide a free analysis detailing the specifics of a data recovery case and the options available
  • Data recovery process which include either in-lab or remote data recovery process alternatives
  • Data return, where recovered information is returned on an encrypted drive or saved to a preferred location remotely

Kroll Ontrack performed the world’s first data recovery in 1987 and makes an unrivalled investment in R&D to produce unique data recovery solutions to address any situation. As well as global reach, it has a large range of proprietary tools and techniques, and 24/7/365 availability. Every year it handles 50,000 data recovery jobs globally.
