We finish the year with a flourish with the results of our Data Disasters Hall of Fame voting. Looking back at the past 11 years of outstanding Data Disasters has been fun. Fond memories of insects and bullet holes make us feel extra appreciative that our data is safe. However, after reviewing the most amazing data loss cases from the last few years, you chose one that outshined all the others. Drum roll please!
And the winner is…
The top Data Disaster story of all time goes to 2008’s “Roasted Laptop”, as voted by you – our blog readers.
“A gentleman put his laptop into the kitchen oven prior to leaving for vacation in order to protect it from burglars if the house was by chance broken into while away. His wife came home and got to the oven before he did to cook a roast chicken. The oven cooked not only the chicken, but the drive too.”
Thank you for casting your vote to select the most interesting story. If you’d like to read the entries for the competing stories, you can still access the Data Disasters Hall of Fame. From all of us at Kroll Ontrack, we wish you and your data all the best in 2014.
