Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) need to develop a better understanding of network security to be able to fend off the threat of cyber crime.
George Quigley, chair of the IT faculty at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, argued SMEs across the country could face an increasing need for data recovery if they do not better educate themselves regarding risks posed online.
Moreover, Computer World UK reports security professionals must also learn to more effectively explain the risks of cyber crime if the situation is to improve in the years ahead.
“We can use basic guidance to get rid of 80 per cent of the problem. But security professionals need to be better at explaining what it means for the business,” Mr Quigley stated. “SMEs are not going to buy security products if they don’t understand them.”
