SMBs ‘fear Wi-Fi network security’

A significant proportion of small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across the UK have cited the fear of network security breaches as a serious concern.

Research published by Netgear revealed three-quarters (75 per cent) of UK SMBs now feel access to stable wireless connectivity is essential for delivering enhanced productivity for staff, but at the same time one in three companies are fearful that Wi-Fi services could leave their business open to risk.

Jonathan Hallatt, Netgear regional director for the UK, Ireland & South Africa, stated: “People quite simply work better when they can communicate, access and share information from wherever they are in the workplace.”

He added that, as a result, investment in advanced security and data recovery measures should go hand-in-hand with wireless connectivity for firms, ensuring that all information sent via wireless networks is both safe and easily recoverable.

Failure to properly protect sensitive business or consumer information can land a business with severe penalties, so it pays to be prudent when increasing levels of access to data.
