Businesses must ensure their data archiving platforms incorporate aspects of scalability, as the volume of information being managed by firms continues to grow.
This is the view of research director at Gigaom Research Ashar Baig, who stated the amount of data being handled by private enterprises is forecast to have grown 50-fold from levels in 2010 by the end of the decade.
As a result, data storage systems need to be fully scalable in order to give companies the competitive advantage they crave from big data – something more and more companies are seeking to achieve at present.
“If businesses are to extract value from years of history and corporate memory, they must store data in a fully accessible database,” Mr Baig argued.
Data availability should therefore be the cornerstone to a successful data management and storage strategy – ensuring companies have access to historic data on which to build future policies as easily as possible.
