Recovery ‘must be a focus for data backup’

Data archiving must not only ensure files are effectively safeguarded, but in the event of an emergency, they should also be easily accessed and restored.

Enterprise Storage Forum reports a range of industry experts have given their views on the important and evolving role of data backup and recovery solutions for businesses and the aforementioned statement was one of the chief messages the group wished to get across.

Christophe Bertrand, vice-president of product marketing for data management at CA Technologies, told the news provider robust testing is critical to effective data archiving and recovery or, ultimately, these processes could fail.

Meanwhile, senior manager of product marketing at CommVault Robbie Wright stated: “A successful backup solution should provide deep application integration to enable rapid recovery and restore uptime of these critical applications.”

Failing to do so means companies could run the risk of significant downtime in the event of a breach or disaster and this can prove highly damaging to a firm’s chances of effectively recovering from such emergencies.

Avoid the pitfalls of archive migration by engaging the experienced tape services team at Kroll Ontrack.
