A growing level of investment in three of the fastest growing areas of data management technology has been highlighted within the publishing sector.
New figures collated by the Association of Online Publishers (AOP) have shown 89 per cent of the report’s 700 respondents stated they plan to increase levels of investment in major data management technologies over the coming 12 months, with a significant focus on the rollout of facilities to better manage big data requirements, the cloud and embrace mobile.
Indeed, 58 per cent of the 32 major publishing houses surveyed stated they will increase their data analytics teams by a further 30 per cent this year.
Overall, this influx of new technology comes in response to the considerable increase in data being handled by publishers in recent years, with this information able to deliver key advantages to those businesses that are able to pinpoint swift and reliable consumer trends.
Tim Cain, AOP managing director, commented: “The fact 89 per cent of publishers plan to grow their investment in data technology is due to the fact that many will be increasingly working with data management platforms to bring data into more manageable formats.”
A significant increase in mobile audiences over recent years has also meant more companies now see this area as key to promote future growth – overall, 79 per cent of respondents have pledged considerable investment in mobile and app development in 2014.
“Publishers are moving quickly to ensure their sites are mobile optimised and can deliver mobile read content seamlessly, hence the reason it is now the second highest priority for online publishers after data monetisation,” Mr Cain concluded.
New technology partnerships between publishers and tech providers will be a standout feature of the coming year, with improved data management at the heart of business planning to facilitate increased revenues and growth.
