Non-IT execs ‘failing to understand security risks’

New research published by NTT Com Security has highlighted a growing sense among non-IT executives that their business critical files are completely secure, when in actual fact this is unlikely to be the case.

According to the organisation’s findings – which drew on the responses of more than 800 non-IT business decision-makers from across the globe – 49 per cent of participants stated a belief their sensitive data was secure against loss, despite the fact 56 per cent said they expect to suffer a security breach in the future.

Responding to the results, senior vice president of security strategy at NTT Com Security Garry Sidaway commented: “The report shows a kind of security-maturity scale developing among businesses that value their data, but do not always recognise the risks to critical information.”

He added implementing effective security safeguards and investing in effective data recovery measures for times of emergency should therefore be a priority for all businesses.
