EU firms unready for influx of wearables, survey finds

Many businesses in the EU expect to ramp up their use of wearable technologies next year, but few are prepared for the security and data recovery ramifications.

This is according to a new survey from Ipswitch, published on Thursday (December 11th), which found that one in three firms across the UK, Germany and France plans to formally adopt devices like smartwatches and headsets through 2015. The same figure expects to see an influx of employee-owned wearables over that time frame.

To date, however, just 13 per cent of firms have introduced policies to manage the impact of this growth, so for the majority it represents a risk to security, as well as a potential bandwidth bottleneck.

Furthermore, even fewer (11 per cent) told Ipswitch that one of their top priorities for 2015 was to spend more time planning for the use of wearable technologies to the workplace.

“If the right policies, technologies and monitoring tools are not put in place, businesses face poor network performance, low availability and the threat of security and compliance issues,” warned Alessandro Porro, Ipswitch’s vice president of international sales.

It is wise to choose a data recovery company who has a track record in recovering from the type of data loss you have experienced.
