BYOD can ‘stretch IT budgets’

Tablets could represent an efficient solution for businesses keen to embrace the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) phenomenon in terms of improving flexibility for staff and boosting overall productivity.

Federica Troni, research director at Gartner, stated IT budgets could be stretched by businesses embracing BYOD and a focus on the use of tablets in particular, as this system enables three times as many devices to be supported than enterprise-owned tablet programmes.

“A balanced mix of enterprise-owned and user-owned devices with different levels of stipends will be the most effective way of capitalising the benefits of BYOD,” Ms Troni argued.

However, she added that companies keen to embrace BYOD should also implement strong data protection policies or they run the risk of opening up their key IT infrastructure to potential breaches.

Investment in areas like disaster and data recovery planning should therefore also be top priorities for firms employing widespread BYOD practices.

It is wise to choose a data recovery company who has a track record in recovering from the type of data loss you have experienced.
