Companies continue to fail to leverage the best performance from big data analysis, leading to many businesses feeling the heat when it comes to competitiveness.
Chief executive officer at Bull UK & Ireland Andrew Carr told Tech Radar how two-thirds of business decision makers remain dissatisfied with their organisation’s ability to handle big data management effectively, with responsiveness a key issue many bosses are aware of at present.
“Today’s decision makers increasingly rely on the quality and timeliness of the data reports and analytics they receive from business to ensure they make the right strategic choices,” he argued.
“If they don’t get the information they need when they need it, this will negatively impact the profitability and competitive edge of their organisations.”
Mr Carr highlighted company IT and marketing departments as the most in need of responsive big data analytics, as each use wide-ranging statistics to build brand strategies and ensure they are delivering the best level of service to existing customers and potential new ones.
He cited research carried out by his firm that showed inadequacies in IT infrastructure to provide a boost to the collation of information across all business departments remains one of the biggest issues facing many company bosses.
Overall, 44 per cent of IT directors and 24 per cent of HR directors felt this was the case.
Data quality was also shown to be a problem for many companies at present, with more than half (56 per cent) of respondents believing the data they receive on which to base important business decisions is not accurate enough.
Investment in the latest data management technologies was therefore highlighted as being essential to companies wishing to get the most out of the growing volumes of information they are being given access to on a daily basis.
