Companies across the globe are embracing the use of applications within their IT infrastructure to boost flexibility and better engage with staff.
However, the Open Web Application Security Project (Owasp) has revealed a growing number of chief information officers cite the rollout of applications as an increasing risk to security, with data recovery measures often required when files become corrupted through applications being targeted by IT hackers.
Justin Clarke, Owasp London chapter leader and director at Gotham Digital Science, told Computer Weekly: “Since 2001, the web application market has grown exponentially and the security challenges have been further increased with the move to mobile platforms and the advent of the cloud.”
He argued that web exploits have become a popular entry point for attackers into business networks and it is therefore vital that addressing this concern becomes a higher priority for companies keen to safeguard their confidential and essential data.
