Below are just a few examples of Kroll Ontrack's work:
Bloody Sunday Inquiry Kroll Ontrack was part of the consortium awarded the prestigious Society for Computers in Law Information Technology Award 2001, as recognition of the imaginative and technically advanced support systems to the Bloody Sunday Inquiry. The consortium assembled a range of technologies that, in terms of scale and scope, had not been implemented in any other courtroom in the world at that time and set new global standards in the use of IT and services for the improvement of the process and quality of justice.
The solution provide to the Inquiry was necessary to:
- Materially assist with the detailed investigation of the events in Londonderry that took place nearly 30 years ago
- Help witnesses make reliable testimony relating to those events
- Ensure that the proceedings were open and fully accessible to a wide public audience
- Help improve the efficiency, reduce the length of the Inquiry and the overall cost
Kroll Ontrack also provided strategic consultancy and an Integrated Exhibit Display System to the Inquiry. The latter was to enable touch sensitive screens to display digitised evidence including scanned documents, virtual reality screenshots and digital video and sound. On-screen annotations could then be made and saved for future reference.
Fraud Case Kroll Ontrack worked with the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and the Devon and Cornwall Police in the provision of technology and services in the Regina-v-Martens matter in Bristol Crown Court. The multi-agency investigation and subsequent prosecution incorporated the skills and expertise of lawyers, police officers, accountants, interpreters and IT specialists. Interpol and other international organisations were also involved as the case spanned 22 countries.
Kroll Ontrack:
- Image scanned more than 225,000 pages of original evidence (approximately 620 lever arch files) in a highly secure environment during the preparation for trial
- Distributed 240 CD-ROMs containing approximately 1.8 million image documents in electronic format to the defendants and their respective legal teams
- Networked 22 computer screens in court so that Judge, jury, witnesses, defence and prosecution teams could simultaneously view the trial bundle and exhibits (which comprised 25,000 pages) via a courtroom presentation system
Transaction Based Property Disposal Kroll Ontrack assisted a City law firm and their client on the sale and leaseback of 1,400 properties. The project constituted approximately 350,000 pages in varying formats, sizes, conditions, colours and ages. These included Reports on Titles, Lease Summaries, Goad Plans, CAD drawings, measurement surveys, environmental reports, photographs and financial documentation.
Kroll Ontrack provided the law firm and its client with an effective solution that enabled the collation and review of information to be conducted efficiently, then distributed the document collection in a media form that significantly reduced the time required for the prospective purchasers to review it.
Kroll Ontrack's team of over 60 staff:
- Electronically scanned and indexed the Deeds Packets
- Processed, organised, integrated and assembled the resultant electronic images on CDs and computer hard drives
- Distributed the information to the selected parties
- Delivered and installed data at the offices of the short-listed bidders to allow them and their advisers to conduct their due diligence
