When deciding if forensic services may help your case, consider a few of the examples our consultants have been involved in:

Employment Dispute. In a case where an employee was suspected of harassment, Ontrack Forensics performed an independent investigation of the computer media and e-mail system. Whilst harassing e-mails were found on the suspect's PC, Ontrack Forensics was able to prove that a senior employee in the IT department had gained illegal access and sent the email under the users name.

IP Theft. A company suspected a group of former employees had taken valuable client data and business plans. A forensic examination of individual PC's revealed data had indeed been copied and removed from the premises. This evidence enabled the company to seek an injunction against the former employees which led to a search and seizure order for various additional computer media. The evidence confirmed data theft and the case resulted in a substantial settlement for damaged.

Executive Misconduct. A director of a company was suspected of setting up a rival business. Ontrack Forensics was called in by the chairman to examine relevant computers. Correspondence and documents were identified which were preparatory to the set up of the new business. When presented with the evidence the director resigned and did not progress with the new business.

Murder Investigation. The majority of investigations include an element of digital evidence. Our consultants regularly undertake computer forensics work for law enforcement agencies, involving theft, murder, terrorism and various other criminal acts, often providing critical evidence. Digital evidence can prove particularly crucial where communication and timelines are involved.

Courtroom Testimony. As part of their role, our consultants regularly appear as expert witnesses in both the civil and criminal courts. They have experience in providing expert opinion on various computer related evidence. This can range from the operation of a particular computer system through to the provenance of a single document.

Consultancy/Expert Report. It is not always an urgent or legal matter that our consultants work on. Many companies have found it useful to engage Ontrack Forensics in consultancy work with regard to their media. Our Consultants have advised on best practice for issues such as media storage, media retention and the review of systems. This consultancy is most useful in mitigating risk, proactively indentifying issues and litigation or investigation readiness.
