Tape Processing
Kroll Ontrack’s Tape Processing service provides expertise and capacity to extract and process target data from one tape to potentially many thousands from an organisation’s archive. Back up tapes contain information which was present on a computer system, at a point in time. This is information that is possibly no longer available in ‘active’ storage.
Why process tapes?
You might be looking for ‘smoking gun’ evidence contained in deleted or forgotten emails, or seeking to prove documents did, or did not, exist at a certain time. Alternatively you may be simply looking to ascertain what legally sensitive information is archived on back up tapes before disposing of them securely.
When conducting any form of computer investigation, whether used for back up or archiving, tapes can provide an important snapshot in time, often overlooked by the suspect. As such, back up tapes can provide a valuable additional source of legally sensitive data that could be crucial to your investigation.
