What is Data Collection?
Kroll Ontrack’s Data Collection service gathers electronic evidence and materials in a forensically-sound manner as the foundation of a potential computer investigation, or for future use. Firstly, we work with you to define the requirements of your project. You may require advice and assistance identifying where digital evidence is stored. This could range from desktops and laptops to PDA’s, servers and mobile phones. Secondly an appropriate data collection strategy is developed to successfully extract the data.
Why do I need a data collection service?
Digital Evidence may exist in many parts of an IT infrastructure, and advice should be sought to identify all relevant locations. It may be required for relatively small matters (a single desktop), but may also include large corporate incidents or where the evidence forms part of an electronic disclosure exercise, where many gigabytes of data are collected & investigated.
Why employ an electronic evidence expert?
Electronic evidence needs to be captured in a manner that guarantees it is not altered in any way during, or subsequent to, the actual collection; and that provides a verifiable audit trail from the moment of capture. Key electronic evidence may also exist in devices or parts of devices that are not easily accessible, and where complex and advanced tools need to be deployed to capture the digital evidence.
Benefit from a service which will:
- Provide you with the right advice to maximise the likelihood of all relevant electronic evidence being collected.
- Assist electronic evidence capture in a professional, secure manner that will allow it to be used as the basis of a future investigation.
- Ensure that this complex, risky task will be carried out successfully.
