Firms must stay up to date with legal technologies

Category: Legal Technologies

11 July, 2012

Companies around the world have found regulatory pressures have increased at the same time as the economic climate tightened budgets.

Firms now face a perfect storm of having to comply with an increasing raft of regulations, particularly in regard to privacy and bribery, combined with fewer resources and, often, fewer staff.

For this reason it is vital to keep on top off compliance and ensure the relevant staff members have the training they need to understand new legal technologies.

Audits and compliance reviews should be a regular task, but certain events such as mergers, suspected fraud or bribery and regulatory investigations, mean firms need to disclose evidence to prove compliance.

Most of all, organisations need to remember their legal requirement to protect relevant data whenever litigation or investigation is considered likely.

Training staff to understand how to preserve data, as well as outlining the meaning of the vague term 'likely', means that some of the events that can trip firms up can be avoided.
