Virtualisation shows the value in data

Virtualisation helps businesses extract the value from their data by identifying patterns.

This is the view of Andy Kirk, founder of the Visualising Data blog, who claimed that data on its own is fairly useless to businesses, it is the way it is managed that makes it worthwhile.

"When undertaken effectively, data visualisation is a powerful discovery tool, a means of unlocking findings, patterns and relationships that are hidden by data when left in its raw state," he explained.

Virtualisation also then helps firms to educate others about the message imparted by the data, both those working for the company and externally, making it a valuable communication tool.

He warned that in the current ever-changing technology landscape, virtualisation will be vital for firms seeking a competitive advantage.

But as the Olympic Games later this month forces many organisations to consider how to implement flexible working, virtualisation may well increase in popularity.
