Mobile phones are management 'weak link'

Category: Data management

26 July, 2012

Mobile phones and laptops are often the weak link when it comes to securing data.

Matt Torrens, director at SproutIT.co.uk, said that business leaders need to spend time considering how mobile phones will fit with their current data management strategy.

"There's little point spending time and money protecting your laptop and your physical security of your office if you then have a mobile phone with access to all of your information and just a four digit pin code," he pointed out.

Most businesses also neglect wireless when they are creating their data management policy, using only a single password that
people will share with clients or visitors.

Worse, a lot of the time passwords are never changed, even when people leave the company.

This means that anyone could get access to company documents.

It is vital that organisations consider their approach to security – especially where technology is concerned – when they introduce new data management processes to avoid bad practices such as these.
