HMRC moves to the cloud

Category: Data management

3 October, 2012

Among other huge governmental infrastructures, HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs) is set to move its data to the cloud.

Online data management allows a company greater security as physical documents containing sensitive information cannot be stolen or lost.

Using the cloud for data management purposes also has monetary benefits.

HMRC moved to the cloud so they could "substantially reduce the cost of communication services across UK Government and enable new, joined-up and shared public services for the benefit of citizens," says the Cabinet Office.

The cloud also works for a structure of this size as it allows data archiving.

In addition, should the sensitive information they deal with need to vanish, the cloud grants efficient data destruction.

This move is in response to the strict data protection laws put in place to ensure that no individuals' privacy is compromised.

Companies of all sizes can take advice from the shift of business-giant HMRC.

Information is critical to the successful running of most businesses. When it comes to the secure deletion of end-of-life data, Kroll Ontrack has CESG accredited software and hardware you can rely on.
