Firms reassessing data storage to address expanding volume

Category: Data recovery

A rapid rise in the volume of digital data organisations need to deal with is forcing a reassessment of storage capabilities.

The ongoing economic downturn has seen many companies turn to data efficiency technologies, in a bid to enhance management, according to a study by the International Data Corporation (IDC).

Data compression and storage virtualisation are among the most widely adopted storage efficiency technologies, although data deduplication is expected to become more popular in the future.

However, organisations are being slow to update their data recovery plans as the volume of information and documents continues to expand.

A recent Kroll Ontrack Cloud Survey found that two-thirds of organisations are not regularly updating their software recovery plans.

The IDC research director for storage systems, Natalya Yezhkova believes the that, as awareness of technologies increases, demand will grow.

"Storage vendors should be ready to deliver a variety of technologies to the whole spectrum of customers, from large businesses all the way down to small companies," she explained.

When looking for data recovery services, look for one with a track record of success.  Ontrack Data Recovery services has 50,000 successful data recovery stories to tell every year.
