Two thirds of businesses have now realised the value of data protection and its role in carrying out successful business functions, it has been stated.

Research carried out by Kroll Ontrack has shown that 66 per cent of businesses now realise the heightened importance of data availability and ensuring all information is backed up correctly as a result of a number of public government data loss incidents in the last year.

Kroll Ontrack business development manager Alastair Molyneux stated that "more organisations are now aware of the value of data and the need to manage it correctly".

Meanwhile, a study recently carried out by Forrester Research has revealed that the majority of top level chief information officers believe that data utilisation is currently not being implemented well enough.

The research showed that 40 per cent of server space is currently being used effectively, a figure which points to vast improbvements needed in the area of data management for many businesses.
