Data management changes 'must be top-down'

Category: Data management

10 September, 2012

Businesses need to spot new technology trends from the start if they are to implement them successfully.

John Gallagher, director of public and analysis relations at iPass, said that Wi-Fi and Bring Your Own Device schemes have had a huge impact on UK firms, but those who embraced the trends early have seen the most success.

He explained that all of these new trends have implications for data management and security, so the sooner managers adapt, the sooner clear policies can be put in place.

"[Early adopters have] got control over the data and [there are] those who are looking at 'bring your own network' already, and there are companies looking at controlling their network profit too," he said.

Wi-Fi has been so important to businesses that it is expected to grow by four and a half times in the next three years as firms grow their own network.

New technology has been one of the best tools available to businesses struggling to increase productivity in the current climate.
