Data assets will continue to grow

Category: Data management

18 July, 2012

As long as data management solutions remain affordable for businesses, data assets will continue to grow.

Andy Kirk, founder of Visualising Data, said that if the cost to capture, store and handle the data is justifiable to firms, and within their price range, it is unlikely they will do anything to reduce their levels.

One of the main challenges, he said, will not be whether firms have the room to store ever-increasing levels of data, but if they are actually making any tangible use out of it.

"The key will be whether organisations are sufficiently geared up to take advantage of these rich raw materials. Capturing it and holding it are all good and well, but if you don't convert this into information and into understanding then what is the point?" he asked.

Having cloud computing or virtualisation helps organisations to create a data management framework to make the most of the information they are gathering.
