Businesses generally accept that the cloud has the potential to increase flexibility and to create cost savings, but there are still a few kinks to iron out.
Michael Thorne, product director for Pearlfinders.com, said that for a while people thought that cloud may be a passing trend and were fairly sceptical about it.
However, now it has certainly proved its capabilities when it comes to data archiving and management, including its potential to shorten recovery times.
Mr Thorne warned that despite the success, security is still a major concern for many.
"I think geographical location is a big challenge as well. We talk about some pharmaceutical companies and law firms who say that their audit requirements and that sort of thing dictates that all their data must be held in a certain country or jurisdiction - like the EU for example," he explained.
Nevertheless, the significant benefits of the cloud mean that businesses are embracing it in spite of the difficulties.
