Cloud cuts data loss risks

Category: Data recovery

19 July, 2012

With flexible working on the increase and more people carrying their office around with them in the form of laptops and tablets, data loss can be an ever-present threat.

When a mobile device is lost or stolen the data stored on it can be lost forever and the cost to businesses in the form of data recovery, man hours lost and a potentially dented reputation.

However, when files are stored in the cloud businesses processes can be restored almost immediately and, as the information is stored virtually rather than on the device, the impact of data loss and the need for file retrieval is minimal.

Although some organisations are concerned about theft or loss in the cloud, using a reputable provider should eliminate this, although it is always important to check individual policies.

But it's not just data recovery that the cloud can help with, it can also cut storage costs as the potential and flexibility of virtualisation is almost unlimited.
