Businesses of all sizes must have a data recovery plan

All businesses, regardless of their size, must have in place a robust data recovery plan to ensure files can be retrieved should a security breach or disaster occur.

Many small companies believe their obscurity protects them from targeted threats, so they don't plan for such eventualities. However, this isn't always the case and all firms must take steps to ensure they don't lose vital data for good.

What's more, smaller businesses are also at risk of general security threats, which must be factored into any data protection plan.

Leon Ward, field product manager at Sourcefire, explained: "The less targeted, general threats are going to affect everyone and there's a certain level [of danger] that we need to make sure that every organisation protects itself against."

He added that unless systems are in place when an attack happens, a company will be left in a "bad place".

Similarly, many smaller businesses don't take steps to ensure their data against disaster. This can have disastrous consequences, as if data is lost it is hard for a small company to recover.

When looking for data recovery services, look for one with a track record of success.  Ontrack Data Recovery services has 50,000 successful data recovery stories to tell every year.
